Good response to annual youth rallies

-

MIRI: The annual Youth Rally organised by the Roman Catholic Church of Miri Diocese continues to receive good response from teenagers in Miri diocese.

Over 1,000 youths came to each rally. Participation in the 10th rally to be conducted from June 25 - 27 has been confirmed by a total of 1,300 youths from Limbang, Miri, Bintulu and Kapit divisions.

The three- day rally themed ‘Activate III-Infinite Power’ to be held at a hotel here is based on Acts 1: 8 - ‘ But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout the ends of the earth’.

“By ourselves we are limited, but with God’s infinite power working in us we are able to do what God wants us to do. Hence, it is hoped that this conference will help bring our teenagers to a realisation of the necessity of being empowered by the Holy Spirit,” the spokesperson told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Among the activities for the three- day rally are praise and worship, an opening Mass, talk on the Holy Spirit, counselling and confession. There will also be a concert night for youths at the rally at 7pm on June 27.

“This year we are honoured to have three of our homegrown speakers - Rev Fr John Chia, Rev Fr Andy William Lee and Rev Fr Sylvester Ngau - enlighten us on the necessity of the Holy Spirit power in our lives as Christians,” said the spokesperson.

Fr Chia, ordained on May 1, 1997, and Fr Ngau, ordained on May 1, 2015, are both talented in music and singing.

“Fr Ngau is expected to continue bringing to this rally a new flavour and energy as he has a heart for youth ministry, and throughout his years in the seminary, had been reaching out to secondary school students.

“Fr Chia, who is blessed with a great talent and passion for music and singing, will put this gift to good use by reaching out to youths of our diocese and those of other dioceses in the country,” said the spokesperson.

He added that Fr Lee is a passionate preacher of the Word of God and this passion drives him to give powerful and Spirit-filled talks especially to young people at youth gatherings, seminars and camps all around the diocese.

Ordained on June 17, 2001, Fr Lee is currently the parish priest of Gereja Yesus Tuhan, Lapok.
