Sickly elderly couple in need of helping hand

-

KUCHING: Septuagenarian Osman Saleh hopes to have the roof of his house repaired this Hari Raya Aidilfitri, but he has no funds to do so.

According to non-governmental organisation ( NGO) Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan, 72-year- old Osman is a diabetic who also suffers from heart problems and kidney failure.

Recently, Hope Place donated food items to Osman and his wife Hamisah Sepet.

“He is currently working as a grass cutter, earning a daily wage of between RM30 to RM50. Unfortunately, he does not own a car or motorbike so he can only offer his services to areas near his house.

“On the other hand, his wife Hamisah suffered from a minor stroke and is visually impaired due to her diabetes. Both she and Osman live in a rundown house which they cannot repair as they have no money,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Osman informed Wan that the couple have three children who have not visited them for years nor given them any money to help them with their livelihood.

“Osman feels very hopeless and hopes that this Hari Raya Aidilfitri, a kindred spirit will offer to help repair the roof of his house.”

Hope Place currently supports more than 170 families by contributing some essential food items like rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, biscuits, and noodles. Many of these families or individuals barely earn enough to get through the month and are grateful with the assistance of these basic necessities delivered to them.

For more information, please call Hope Place’s hotline at 0135672775 or office at 082- 683378 from 8.30am to 12pm and 2pm to 5pm ( Monday to Friday), and 9am to 12pm on Saturdays.
