Jackie Chan raves that Le Mans win like Oscar honour

-

PARIS: It was a rare triumph for Jackie Chan when his team placed second at the Le Mans 24 Hours, and he said it felt “exactly like when I got an Oscar”.

The Jackie Chan DC Racing Oreca led the race overall with just 70 minutes to go, when the recovering works Porsche 919 Hybrid finally overhauled it for outright honours.

But Jackie’s car – crewed by Ho-Pin Tung, Oliver Jarvis and Thomas Laurent – still claimed class honours, and second place outright. The team’s sister car finished fourth overall, third in class.

Team co- owner and martial arts legend Jackie, 63, was bestowed with an honorary Oscar last year at the Governor’s Awards for his decades of work in film by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.

He wasn’t present at Le Mans this year, due to a prior engagement with his stunt performer foundation in Shanghai, but sent a live message to the celebrations after the event.

“How exciting!” raved Jackie. “It’s exactly like when I got an Oscar. Really, watching it on video, I’m just sorry I could not be there.

next year, and coming years and years.”

Jackie Chan bought an ownership stake in DC Racing last year, and he would have been jumping for joy at the sight of the leaderboard, with two of his team’s cars making the top five as the race headed towards its conclusion.

And even though it was a great story, fans were struggling to grasp how a slower car could be leading Le Mans.

But not just any slower car. One owned by Jackie Chan.
