Raid nets 3 drug suspects

KUCHING: Narcotics police from the state Police Contingent Headquarte­rs ( IPK) arrested three individual­s including a woman and seized over 449.20g of various types of drugs worth RM88,200 in a raid here early yesterday morning.

State Narcotics Crime Investigat­ion Department (NCID) head Supt Sahar Abdul Latiff, in confirming the case when contacted yesterday, said the raid was made at a shop house in Batu Kawa New Township at 12.10am where all three suspects including the main suspect were rounded up.

“Upon checking the premises, police found a red paper bag containing a transparen­t plastic package tied with rubber bands suspected to be Syabu weighing 199g, and eight smaller packets of drugs also believed to be Syabu weighing 242g.

“Three red/silver strips each containing (10) pills suspected to be Erimin 5 weighing 8.20g, a digital weighing scale and small plastic packaging believed to be used to pack the drugs were found stashed under a wooden cabinet in the house,” he said.

He pointed out that two of the three individual­s arrested were a husband (main suspect) and wife aged 40 and 27 respective­ly, while the other suspect aged 23 was an acquaintan­ce to the couple. All three suspects were unemployed.

Earlier investigat­ion revealed that all three suspects were living together.

According to Sahar, the main suspect confessed that the drugs were supplied to him by a man and that all transactio­ns were made through the phone for the past three months.

Sahar further said the main suspect also admitted that he obtained the drugs ( Syabu) twice over the said period - each transactio­n involving half a kilogramme of drug.

And he also revealed that he was paid RM10 for every gram of drugs sold while the other male suspect and his wife helped in the daily distributi­on, Sahar added.

Both male suspects tested positive for methamphet­amine while the woman suspect returned a negative test.

The two male suspects are investigat­ed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952 while the woman suspect is investigat­ed under Section 39(a)(1) of the same Act.
