JKKKs told to stress on home safety among residents

-

SRI AMAN: Assistant Minister of Community Wellbeing Datuk Francis Harden Hollis has urged all village security and development committees (JKKKs) throughout the state to stress on home safety to prevent fires from breaking out.

He said the JKKK should ensure that all residents cooperate in monitoring activities which may cause fires.

“Therefore, we hope those living in villages, housing areas and longhouse dwellers form a fire prevention committee at their respective places of dwelling. The committee is important because the committee will indirectly monitor the outbreak of fire.

“I also want to remind parents to watch over their young children so that they do not play with matches or anything that may start a fire,” he said at the ‘Ngiling Tikai 2017’ ceremony at Rumah Resa, Empelanjau Bakong near here yesterday.

He also urged residents to approach the Fire and Rescue Department and other government agencies to give them basic training on fire control and prevention of fire.

“Building a home takes very long time but it takes just a blink of an eye for it to be razed to the ground. Before this happens we should take precautions.”

At the event, he approved allocation of RM5,000 each to JKKK Rumah Resa, Empelanjau Bangkong and JKKK Rumah Langaw, Jongkong Panjai which was destroyed in a fire earlier this year.

He also presented pocket money of RM400 to 20 children from Tabika Tunas Harapan, Tanjung Bijat Sri Aman and RM250 to Kumpulan Gendang Pampat Rumah Resa, Empelanjau Bakong.

He also gave five fire extinguishers to Rumah Resa, Empelanjau Bakong.

Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Department senior officer II Jilin Itar, Pemanca Lee Siang Hua, Penghulu Tinggi Nyandang, Sri Aman District Council deputy chairman Cr Andar Suntai, Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) Simanggang branch women wing chief Ling Siew Hung and SUPP Lingga branch chairman Kapitan Kuek Aik Seng were among those present at the event.
