MARUDI: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau recently declared open the 2km-long Jalan Rumah Jimbau linking Rumah Jimbau with the main Marudi town road.

The construction of the cement road involved a cost of RM300,000 and was implemented under the Rural Roads Project 2015 by the federal Ministry of Rural and Regional Development. The project started in September last year and was completed in December.

“This road upgrade project is a project implemented by the government that benefits the people, especially the locals,” Dennis said in his officiating speech at the Majlis Pengerami Ngiling Bidai 2017 closing ceremony at the longhouse. Earlier, the ceremony saw Marudi assemblyman Datu Dr Penguang Manggil also officiating.

Also present were Tuai Rumah Jimbau Ena, community leaders, more than 300 residents of the 62- door Rumah Jimbau and residents from the surrounding community consisting of various ethnicities.

“This ceremony aims to strengthen the brotherhood among residents of Rumah Jimbau and the surrounding community. Apart from that, it also serves as a tribute to Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis for his contribution towards the development of this longhouse especially concerning the village road,” Tr Jimbau said.

According to Tr Jimbau, the completion of the road has transformed the longhouse’s whole image, from a muddy longhouse frontage to a more clean and developed look.

“Even though Dennis is no longer our representative, we hope that the Baram team comprising Baram Member of Parliament Anyie Ngau, Marudi assemblyman Datu Dr Penguang Manggil and Dennis Ngau will work together and bring development to the whole of Baram.”

Dennis described the warmth of the residents of Rumah Jimbau as very special with a strong neighbourhood spirit.

“I am very happy to be invited to this programme at Rumah Jimbau although this area is no longer under Telang Usan constituency.

“On the wish of the Poyut/ Lubok Nibong people that their area will remain under N77 Telang Usan, I told the people of that area how we worked hard trying to propose that the area be put under Telang Usan, but we were not successful,” Dennis said. He also revealed that more

than 2,000 signatures were collected and submitted to the Election Commission but it was ignored.

“I miss the strong Iban community support and I urge the Poyut/Lubok Nibong community to continue to support Barisan Nasional and local representative YB ( Yang Berhormat Mulu assemblyman) Datuk Gerawat Gala,” he added.

Dennis also presented study incentives to two Rumah Jimbau residents who will further their studies.

“This incentive aims to motivate young people here to prioritise and excel in their studies,” he said.

He also urged the younger generation at Rumah Jimbau to venture into online business, in line with the government’s call for more development in the digital economy.

“If you are good at weaving, promote your products via the Internet and social media channels. In this way, outsiders can know of your existence and indirectly bring about economic improvement here,” he added.

The event was made lively with an Orang Ulu dance performance, performances by renowned Dayak singers Johnny Aman and Leez Zwita, and lucky draws.
