Rubbish dumped by contractor irks residents of Kg Melayu FRIM
KUALA LUMPUR: Residents of Kampung Melayu, Institut Penyelidikan Perhutanan Malaysia ( FRIM), Kepong are unhappy with the contractor for dumping rubbish to fill a ravine that would serve as the foundation to build Jalan 3/1 and 6/1, although a warning had been issued by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur ( DBKL).
The project to build an alternative road for residents to connect nearby highways, had been littered with piles of rubbish for the past two weeks and the rubbish dumped in the area is causing all sorts of problems for residents living nearby.
The project was to rebuild a road to connect Jalan 6/1 and Jalan 3/1 because the earlier road had caved in since the ravine is about 15m deep.
According to a resident, the contractor was supposed to fill the ravine with rocks and soil and not rubbish because the foundation would not be strong.
Ashim, one of the residents claimed that a number of lorries had been dumping waste from construction sites for the past two weeks.
“We had informed DBKL to take action against the contractor and a warning had been served to stop the contractor from dumping rubbish ... however, the directive from DBKL seems to be ignored. They were dumping waste from construction sites like wood, plastic, tiles, etc to fill the ravine ... we afraid that the foundation might not withstand the task later on,” he told Bernama yesterday.
The residents hoped DBKL would take severe action against the contractor.
Last April, Bernama had highlighted a similar plight of the residents after rubbish dumped by the contractor had resulted in foul smell.
After complaints from the Kampung Melayu FRIM Residents Association ( PPKMF), the contractor cleaned up the rubbish after the DBKL issued a warning. — Bernama
