Footpath in want of tar-sealing for convenience of pupils, villagers

-

KUCHING: Parents of schoolgoing children in Kampung Mundai, Padawan have been complaining about the condition of a footpath leading to the school.

They said the footpath had been in use since the first day the school was opened more than half a century ago.

The footpath is the preferred route to the school because it is also the shortest way to the school compared to using the main road.

DAP Mambong branch deputy chairman Sanjan Daik said he had been informed that repeated requests had been made to the village committee as well as concerned parties, but to no avail.

“One of the villages, Collin Pirine, told me that he had made repeated requests to the village committee as well as to interested parties but nothing has been done.

“The reason given by the village committee is that the footpath passes through private land but its owner has given permission to allow the footpath to be tar-sealed for the benefit of the villagers.”

A visit to the site recently shows that the footpath is dusty during hot weather, and muddy and slippery during rainy days because it is not surfaced with gravel, much less tar-sealed.

Despite the poor condition of the footpath, pupils still use it to go to school.

Sanjan, nevertheless, urged the authority concerned to quickly get the footpath tar-sealed for the convenience of the pupils as well as the villagers.
