-

SIBU: Woodlands International School ( WIS) here will conduct Cambridge A level programme from next year onward, Cambridge International Examinations ( CIE) Country senior director Ng Kim Huat disclosed yesterday.

He said this would be the first time Sarawakian students outside Miri and Kuching can enroll for courses under the programme.

“Students are assured of a personalised study programme in a nurturing school environment,” he said.

Cambridge A level provides wonderful opportunities with the widest entrance acceptance by universities around the world including Australian, New Zealand, American, European and British universities as well as Malaysian institutions.

The Cambridge Examinations are recognised as the `gold standard’ of secondary education and pre-university education throughout the world and acknowledged in over 140 countries worldwide.

“WIS will be offering A level courses in Maths, English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, Computer Science and Chinese depending on student numbers,” Ng said.

“Most of our current secondary teachers ( both Malaysians and expatriates) are fully qualified to teach the A level syllabi, many of whom are already PhD holders.”

Ng said WIS benefited from the generosity of Pine Harvest Sdn Bhd which provided the school with a new purpose-built campus in 2013.

“It includes a swimming pool, multi-purpose hall, full size covered basketball court, three fully equipped science laboratories and three ICT suites.”

Students wishing to join these programmes can be certain of benefiting the more individualised teaching and support available at WIS, Ng said.

As a special promotion, parents registering students between August 1 and November 1 will enjoy a one- off payment of RM23,000 for years 12 and 13.

“The class size will be limited to 20 places to ensure personalised education commitment, and do apply early to guarantee subject selection,” Ng advised students.
