Bamboo rafting new activity in Semadang Tagang Festival 2017

KUCHING: Bamboo rafting competitio­n has been included as one of the activities in the upcoming third edition of Semadang Tagang Festival 2017 slated from July 28- 30.

The organising committee spokesman, Remos Jepos said only one category, that is the open category would be competed and the competitio­n is open to both Malaysians and foreign participan­ts above the age of 18 years and will be held on July 30 at 11 am.

“Entry to the competitio­n is open now and the closing date will be on July 20 at 12 noon,” said Remos, adding that entries are determined on a first come, first served basis.

According to Remos, the race is approximat­ely three kilometres long with the starting point/flag off at Ga Sa- uu in Kampung Semadang near here and the finishing point is at Kampung Semadang’s suspension bridge.

He said the competitio­n offers cashprizeo­fRM800toth­echampion while the first and second runners up will receive RM600 and RM400 respective­ly.

Besides bomboo rafting, the other activities line- up during the three- day festival are fishing competitio­n, kayak race, Miss Tagang beauty pageant, cooking competitio­n, music and dance, food bazaar and exhibition.

The festival is jointly organised by Kampung Semadang Developmen­t and Security Committee, Sarawak Agricultur­e Department and Kampung Semadang Tagang System Committee, supported and sponsored by the Ministry of Transporta­tion, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia and state Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture. — Bernama
