Kpg Usahajaya Baru hosts Ngiling Tikai

SIBU: Kampung Usahajaya Baru in Sentosa hosted a Ngiling Tikai ceremony recently.

Organiser Mamat Pata said the village has always celebrated Gawai Dayak in the spirit of 1Malaysia.

“There are about 800 Ibans here. We live in a great neighbourl­y spirit with others such as the Chinese and Malays,” he said.

Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) Bukit Assek chairman Chieng Buong Toon and his son Joseph Chieng were among the guests.

“We in Sentosa vouch for him as an election candidate,” he said.

Joseph, who is a Sibu Municipal Council ( SMC) council lor, is a potential candidate for the Lanang parliament­ary seat.

According to Joseph, SUPP and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) have joint ly submitted an infrastruc­ture developmen­t plan for Kampung Usahajaya Baru to the federal government.

He said the plan was drafted following a recent visit by SUPP Bukit Assek, SUPP Dudong, and PBB Dudong.

Joseph said they noted problems such as clogged drains, f lash floods, and poor road surfaces.

He also promised to convey the requests of villagers to SMC.
