Water level rising but no call on flooding yet

-

SIBU: Fire and Rescue Department ( Bomba) is monitoring water levels in Daro and Balingian, says its state director Nor Hisham Mohammad.

According to their local contacts who are volunteer firemen, the water level rose to touch the stilts supporting the houses on Thursday.

“This was due to the downpour coupled with king tide but there was no evacuation,” Nor Hisham told The Borneo Post when contacted yesterday.

But they have yet to receive any call on flooding at these places.

“We are monitoring the situation via our local contact PBS (volunteer firemen) and JKKK (village security and development committee),” he added.

Incessant downpour for the past few days coinciding with the king tide inundated Kampung Paloh, Paloh Rural Clinic and a primary school in Tanjung Manis district where floodwaters touched the danger level on Thursday morning.

According to a local source on Thursday, floods have occurred since Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Nor Hisham said they would send a team if the rain persists especially during the king tide.

The local contact said incessant downpour from June 22 to 24 coinciding with the king tide inundated the village, school and clinic.

“Time is needed for the water to be discharged. It’s receding (at press time),” the source said.
