SRI AMAN: A change of mindset is important for the Dayak community to move forward, said Assistant Minister of Community Wellbeing Datuk Francis Harden Hollis.

“Modern challenges call for us to explore various fields as we cannot rely on just one field,” he said at a Ngiling Tikai organised by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Simanggang branch and the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) of Rumah Baie Barang, Merio Tambak, Engkilili yesterday.

Harden who is also Simanggang assemblyman said Dayaks should emulate the Chinese and Malays who had succeeded in many areas, especially in business.

He urged the people to be openminded and support government development plans so the state will not be left behind. Strong support from various Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties and the people is needed to ensure development plans were implemented successfully.

“The government needs Sarawakian support. Without cooperation, it will be hard for development programmes to be realised. Thus, the people should be smart in choosing leaders capable of helping them in development – be it in town or rural areas. BN leaders are the best pick.”

He announced a RM5,000 allocation to the JKKK and RM3,000 to the Women’s Bureau for their activities.
