Authorities asked to improve clinic’s facilities

-

MIRI: The authorities concerned have been asked to improve facilities at the Maternal and Child Health Clinic here.

A mother of two, who only wished to be identified as Wee, said she was disappointed with the poor facilities during a recent visit.

“I am no stranger to the clinic. I have been bringing my eldest child and now my second child to the clinic for monthly injections. It is because the nurses and doctors are very attentive to my children.

“However, from my observation, the facilities have not improved but got worse with every visit,” Wee claimed.

According to her, many of the chairs provided are broken so many parents have to stand around the clinic while waiting for their turn.

“I have personal ly seen mothers who had just given birth to newborn babies being forced to stand for long hours. I myself could not bear to stand during the long wait that could easily take at least one hour.

“The crowded space also means the airconditioning is no longer able to keep the air cool. Under such circumstances, babies would easily become restless and make a lot of noise,” she complained.

However, the friendly smiles of nurses and professional manner of the doctors there did at least ease the problem of the long wait. “I hope that the government and Health Ministry would take note of this and improve conditions at the clinic,” she added.
