Man held for alleged drug possession

KUCHING: A jobless man was arrested after being found in possession of five packets of a white powdery substance, believed to be ketamine, weighing a total of 53.18g.

The 24-year- old suspect in his parked four-wheel- drive vehicle was frisked by police who found the five packets of drugs in the front pocket of his shorts.

“He admitted to banking in RM5,000 to buy the drugs and picking them up behind a petrol station at Jalan Song,” Sahar said on the case yesterday.

He said the suspect from Taman Satria Jaya BDC, Jalan Stutong tested positive for methaphami­ne, amphetamin­e and ketamine and will be investigat­ed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and is under remand for seven days to assist in police investigat­ions.

In an unrelated case, a man was arrested for allegedly causing grievous hurt to his estranged wife at a house in Tabuan Laru on Thursday night.

According to sources, the couple is in the midst of a divorce and have not lived under the same roof for the last three months.

On Thursday, the husband appeared at the house and started arguing with his wife.

The argument turned aggressive and the man allegedly stabbed his spouse with a sharp object.

An ambulance was called to the scene by family members, and the wife is being warded at Sarawak General Hospital.
