The event showcases the thri l ling high performance driving experience involving the BMW 118i M Sport, the BMW 318i, the BMW 330e M Sport and the MINI Countryman S.

In addition to dynamic test drive sessions, the newest BMW and MINI models will also be displayed including the BMW M4 Coupe, BMW X5 xDrive40e M Sport, BMW 530i M Sport, the BMW 328i Gran Turismo, BMW X1 sDrive20i, MINI John Cooper Works, MINI Seven, MINI Clubman S and all new MINI Countryman.

Managing director David Tay said Regas Premium Auto is passionate about delivering the premium brand promise of the BMW Group in Sarawak.

“With this special one of a kind event held here for the first time, we are able to share this passion for premium and ‘sheer driving pleasure’ with our customers here,” he said at the event track yesterday.

Visitors will have a chance to experience the BMW Driver Training sessions which include learning and executing a series of exercises in braking, steering, avoiding obstacles, tackling understeering and oversteering situations as wel l as Slalom challenge.

Every obstacle on the track is engineered to test the agility, efficiency and performance of the new BMW vehicles.

BMW Special Driving instructor Hamdan Rohman said that braking skill is important for a driver in the event of emergency and to avoid obstacles.

“We want to teach drivers how to brake effectively and gain control of their car in times of emergency,” he shared before demonstrating safety and defensive driving skills on track.

Another necessary technique is skid control for drivers to control and recover vehicles from a skid.

“Skidding can happen for various reasons including tyre or weather conditions like slippery road surface.

“During demonstration, we switch off traction control function for the driver to experience how to countersteer.

“Countersteer allows the car to spin with you in control of the vehicle as in drifting,” he added.

Other crucial knowledge to improve one’s driving are being observant of the surrounding, ability to assess the surrounding, scanning traffic and so forth to avoid accidents.

“A lot of safety and defensive skills are involved. Like the saying goes ‘ with great power comes big responsibility’ - you have a powerful vehicle which you must know to control,” he summed up.

Present were Regas Premium Auto principal dealer Simon Wang, head of sales Gavin Tay, sales manager Josephine Tay and marketing manager Jolene Tay.
