Former assistant minister in the Chief Minister office passes away
KUCHING: Former Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office ( Islamic Affairs) Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman passed away yesterday.
On Thursday, Daud, 65, was warded in the intensive care unit at Timberland Medical Centre after complaining of stomach pain. Daud, who was also the former Tupong assemblyman was an engineering graduate from the University of Glasgow, Scotland.
He worked as a resident engineer at the Public Works Department before moving to Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation as a production engineer.
His political career started after he won the Tupong seat on a Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) ticket in the 1991 state election. He retained the seat until the 2016 state election. Daud was also PBB vice-president since 2007.
Meanwhile, Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof in a statement to The Borneo Post expressed his condolences to Daud’s family.
“Heading Tupong for five terms, Daud had a proven track record and was known as a minister and elected representative who frequently went to the ground, and channelled all issues (to the government) concerning his people in his capacity as the assemblyman in the State Legislative Assembly.
“Sarawak lost a dedicated leader who has served the state and also the party with all his heart,” Fadillah said.
Meanwhile, Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said Daud’s passing was a sad moment for the constituency of Tupong and Sarawak. “He was a true statesman and contributed a lot to Tupong and Sarawak.”
Daud is survived by his wife Datin Noraini Hussin and three children. Daud is expected to be buried at the Gita Muslim Cemetery today.
