Never rest on your laurels, SUPP members reminded

-

KUCHING: A SUPP leader feels that party members should stop being complacent after winning seven seats in the state election last year.

SUPP vice president Datuk Lily Yong questioned whether the party did actually win the hearts of Sarawakians then.

Moreover, she stressed that SUPP members should go all out to recover lost grounds and eventually, secure all the seats – both in state and parliamentary elections.

“We have yet to regain all the lost seats – we must get them all back one day. There is no time to be complacent about what we have today. Our voice will be heard only after SUPP becomes a stronger party – a force to be reckoned with,” she said at SUPP Kuching’s 58th anniversary dinner at Pullman Hotel here on Saturday.

In the May 7 state election last year, the party wrested Batu Kawah, Repok, Meradong and Piasau back from DAP, won a new seat Batu Kitang, while retaining Senadin and Simanggang. Yong, who is also SUPP Kuching chairperson, noted that the state Barisan Nasional ( BN), particularly its backbone component PBB, had rendered invaluable assistance to SUPP in the last polls.

In this respect, she hoped that such close collaboration would be further enhanced so that together, they could fight for the interests of Sarawak and its people.

On another matter, Yong said internal conflicts had been going on within SUPP for way too long and this be addressed seriously. She also appealed to those who had left the party to come back.
