Miri CPS in need of a new building — Lee

-

MIRI: There is an urgent need to build a new central police station (CPS) in the city to replace the current building, said Assistant Minister for Tourism Datuk Lee Kim Shin during his visit to the CPS yesterday.

Lee, who is also Senadin assemblyman pointed out that it is crucial for the city to have a more conducive and pleasant CPS not just as a workplace for the police but also to give good impression to the locals as well as the tourists visiting the city.

He noted that the current CPS building needed more than just a facelift since the building had been there since the 1950s.

“In fact, I have brought the matter to the ministry concerned many times but so far, we have not received any feedback.

“We will bring up the matter again because Miri is a resort city and the population is big,” he said.

Lee, who was accompanied by Miri deputy Resident Nyurak Keti also pledged his commitment towards improving some of the facilities that needed urgent repair.

Among others, he said he would repair some of the missing tiles in the CPS and also repair the main door which had been damaged for quite some time.

Currently, the public who goes to the CPS to lodge their report need to use the back door.

“We will repair the main door as soon as possible to give convenience to the public especially the tourists who come here,” he said.

On another note, he commended the police’s effort in minimising crimes involving tourists in the past months.

Lee, who was briefed by head of Miri CPS ASP Nagulan Maniam noted that there had been no criminal reports lodged by any tourist visiting the city in the past months except for reports of missing important documents.

“There has been no report received on snatch thefts especially, therefore I would like to congratulate the police for the job well done,” he said.

Also present at the CPS yesterday was Miri Police chief, ACP Lim Meng Seah.
