SUPP receives new membership­s from four villages in Bengoh

KUCHING: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party ( SUPP) recently received new membership applicatio­ns from villagers of Kampung Semban, Kampung Sait, Kampung Bojong and Kampung Rejoi.

The forms were handed over to SUPP vice president Datuk Francis Harden Hollis when he officiated at the ‘Marun Kasah’ (closing of Gawai) organised by SUPP Braang sub- branch and Semban village security and developmen­t committee (JKKK) at the Bengoh Resettleme­nt Scheme ( BRS) near here.

During the function, Harden also announced a total allocation of RM30,000 from him and SUPP president and Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian for works to upgrade the Dewan Komuniti Semban which was the venue for the function.

Some 500 people converged at the community hall for the dinner and also cultural presentati­on by the village troupes.

Harden, who is also Assistant Minister of Community Well Being, said the dinner was a good platform for the people from these villages to gather and forge greater rapport in the spirit of Gawai festival.

“Gawai festival is always about families getting together and having a thanksgivi­ng feast to celebrate achievemen­t and to pray for better things in the following year,” said Harden.

He also announced Minor Rural Project ( MRP) grants of RM3,000 each for the JKKKs of Kampung Semban, Kampung Sait, Kampung Bojong and Kampung Rejoi, and presented a wheelchair to a villager.
