Company sets new safety record with LNG project

-

BINTULU: JGC ( Malaysia) and its local partners have achieved a record 727 Green Days and 6,186,938 safe man hours as of June 23, during the construction of the Malaysia LNG Tank 7-PAF project at Tanjung Kidurong here.

JGC ( Malaysia) said the achievement surpassed the JCG Group’s previous Green Day global records. Green Days are days worked without any recordable injury or incident. The company attributed the success to its high standard of work safety culture and the strong influence of its Health, Safety, Security and Environment ( HSSE) slogan of ‘Work Safely, Go Home Happily’.

“This achievement is a direct result of our strong HSSE culture which has become a way of life for us in the workplace and outside the workplace,” JGC said in a press release.

“We also diligently observe and practise pro- active safety and human relations programmes such as the Incident and Injury Free ( IIF) programme which focuses on nurturing mutual respect, mutual understanding and a close relationship between management and staff.”

The IIF programme also makes it mandatory for the management team to be at the work sites to meet, greet and interact with site personnel as they come for work every morning and during working hours.

Additionally, management and workers are also required to participate in the morning Radio Taiso calisthenics (a physical warm-up exercise programme integral to Japanese culture) and to take turns to briefly massage each other’s back and shoulders before the safety toolbox talk in order to improve the relationship between management and workers.

Under IIF, the management team will conduct frequent safety observation and monitoring programmes such as taking the lead in management walkabouts to all work sites at least three times per week.

“The management of JGC would like to thank MLNG and Petronas for the opportunity to be the main Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning ( EPCC) Contractor on the project, as well as for the close collaboration with its project management team to ensure the safety and successful implementation of the project,” the company said.

Meanwhile, its HSSE manager Sylvester Seal Sunow told The Borneo Post yesterday that JGC is targeting to achieve more than 800 Green Days for the Malaysia LNG Tank 7-PAF project which is expected to be completed in the middle of October this year.

JGC ( Malaysia) and its local partners Hyup Soon Industries, Rahabco Engineering and Construction, Kaefer ( Malaysia), AEIC Construction ( M), Toyo Kanetsu Malaysia, Scafforce Engineering and Trading, and Muhibbah Engineering ( M) started work on the Malaysia LNG Tank 7 – Piping and Associated Facilities ( T7PAF) Project in March 2015.
