Perak RTD opens tenders for ‘AKU’ series licence plate registration

IPOH: The Perak Road Transport Department ( RTD) has opened booking tenders for the AKU series licence plate registration numbers yesterday.

It will remain open until July 18.

Perak RTD director Mohd Zawawi Zakaria said the new series which would start from 1 to 9999, would be opened for tender to members of the public with a registration fee of RM10.

He said there are three categories of numbers offered for registration – Golden Number (1 to 10); attractive numbers ( like 2222, 4444, 11, 12 and 14) and popular numbers (like 9090, 7070, 2266 and 4400).

“The Golden Numbers would have a minimum tender prize of RM10,000, attractive numbers start at a minimum of RM2,000 while popular numbers will start at RM300. Applicants must pay a registration fee of RM10 and a 50 per cent deposit of the intended choice.

“If the applicant fails to follow the terms and conditions set for the application or bidding, their application will be rejected,” he told reporters at the Perak RTD office, here yesterday.

According to Mohd Zawawi, celebrities and sportsman have joined the bidding for selected numbers like 8055, 1305 and 805.

These numbers do not have a specific category but since the demand for such numbers is high, they have been placed under the popular category.

“We will not be able to know the value of the bidding but since AKU 8055 relates to ‘AKU BOSS’ the number has become a popular choice, therefore the result of the bidding for the number would only be known in two or three weeks,” he said.

Thus far, the highest amount tendered for a licence plate registration number in Perak is ‘AKK 1’ which was bought last year for RM288,000. — Bernama
