2,000 expected at SHS’ 50th anniversar­y of relocation

SIBU: About 2,000 people are expected to join the 50 th anniversar­y of there location of Sacred Heart School (SHS) from Mission Road to its present site at Oya Road here on Aug 5.

School principal David Teo told a press conference yesterday that various activities will be held to mark the occasion, including a jogathon, walkathon, food fair and aerobic exercise.

With him at the press conference were school board of management secretary Dr Hii Sui Cheng, assistant secretary Yong King Sung, parent-teacher associatio­n (PTA) chairman Dr LauNgi Chuong and Sacred Heart Old Students’ Associatio­n( Shosa) president Hii Chang Kee, who is also Sibu Resident, and secretary Eddy Phua.

Teo said the 3.5 km jogathon is open to present as well as former students.

School redevelopm­ent committee chairman Temenggong Vincent Lau and board of management vice-chairman Lau Swee Nguong will flag off the runners at 6.45am.

On the food fair, Teo said it will have about 40 stalls, and it will be jointly officiated by Dr Lau and Chang Kee.

School board chairman, His Lordship Rt Re v Bishop Joseph Hii, will officiate at the 50 th anniversar­y celebratio­n main event at 8am.

Meanwhile, ChangKee said the relocation of the school from Mission Road to the existing site marked an important milestone in the school’s history.

“We share the excitement of the commemorat­ion and would like to appeal to old students to return to the school to join our jogathon and food fair to raise funds for the school,” he said.
