Indonesian tailor faces three terrorist involvemen­t charges

SLIM RIVER: An Indonesian tailor was charged in the magistrate’s court here yesterday with involvemen­t in terrorist activities.

However, no plea was recorded from Rino Kaswara Kasmar, 34, after three charges were read out to him by the court interprete­r.

On the first charge, he is accused of knowingly supporting Daesh through social media, Telegram under ‘AnsharulKh­ilaafah Filibiin Indonesia-Filipina’ that he had created at Medan Niaga, Jalan Pasar Slim River here on May 2.

He faces Section 130J(1)( a) of the Penal Code which carries up to 30 years imprisonme­nt or a fine and liable to forfeiture of any asset found to have been used in the commission of the offence.

On the second charge, he is accused of promoting membership in Mujahideen Indonesia Timur ( MIT) terrorist group and Daesh terrorist group through Telegram under the name of Rijal Mujahideen Minangkaba­u, at the same location between May 2 and June 12.

He faces Section 120G( B) of the Penal Code which carries up to 30 years imprisonme­nt and liable to a fine on conviction.

On the third charge, Rino Kaswara is accused of possession of a mobile phone containing material on terrorism and Daesh at Bazar Majlis Daerah Tanjung Malim ( MDTM), Jalan Pasar, Slim River here on June 12.

The charge under Section 130JB(1)( a) of the Penal Code carries a maximum seven years imprisonme­nt and a fine and liable to forfeiture of any asset found to have been used in the commission of the offence, on conviction.

Magistrate Intan Nurul Farena Zainal Abidin set Aug 7 for remention pending transfer of the case to the High Court in Kuala Lumpur.

Deputy public prosecutor Syalia Ain Zainuddin appeared for the prosecutio­n while the accused was unrepresen­ted. — Bernama
