-

MIRI: Department of National Unity and Integration (JPNIN) is taking the challenge to ensure the role of the department in safeguarding and promoting racial unity and harmony remains relevant even after 2050.

Towards this end, its directorgeneral Baharin Idris wants officers and staff of the department throughout the country not to be complacent with what they have achieved in the past.

“I throw a question to my officers whether the role of JPNIN is still relevant from 2050 onwards.

“This is the matter that we should look at following the fast changes of modern lifestyle of the society at that time,” he stated when officiating at JPNIN’s Borneo Zone 2016 Excellent Service Awards (APC) presentation at the civic centre here recently.

Reiterating that the department should continue to stay relevant even after 2050, he reminded that it is their responsibility to ensure that racial harmony and unity continue to prevail to enable the country to progress further.

In this era of Information Communication Technology (ICT), he said JPNIN is now facing tough challenges as it has to deal with other issues related to unity such as politics, language and religion.

Thus, he wanted his officers and other staff to improve and upgrade their knowledge and skills in order to be able to cope with the challenges.

At the same time, he called on them to heed the call by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to make 2017 the year of excellent service delivery by the civil service.

“Although operation budget had been cut down, it is not an excuse for us not to deliver our service to the people effectively.

“That is why we are taking al ternat ive approach and encourage our officers to conduct integrated or Blue Ocean Strategy programmes with the support from other agencies such as the police, National Anti-Drug Agency (ADK), private agencies and nongovernmental organisations ( NGO).”

A total of 68 recipients from the department’s various offices in Sarawak, Sabah and Federal Territory of Labuan received the excellent service awards.

In addition, 12 officers and other staff who had served more than 20 years also received recognition from the department.

The department also gave tokens of appreciation to three of its staff in Sarawak and Sabah who will retire this year.

JPNIN’s service management division director Mohd Syarizal Abdul Halim, Sarawak JPNIN director Dirwana Azool, Sabah JPNIN director Delin Liet Blaun and Federal Territory of Labuan JPNIN director Mimie Duasah were also present.
