314 students graduate at RiamTec

MIRI: Riam Institute of Technology (RiamTec) held a graduation ceremony for 314 students at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club yesterday.

The graduates passed the Cambridge GCE A-Level, Certified Accounting Technician (CAT), Diploma In Commerce, Diploma in Electronic Engineerin­g, Diploma in Mechanical Engineerin­g, Diploma in Automative Engineerin­g, Diploma in Occupation­al Health and Safety, Diploma in Hotel Management, Malaysian Skills Diploma in Culinary Arts, Malaysian Skills Diploma in Pâtisserie and Malaysian Skills Diploma in Automative Electrical.

At the ceremony, deputy chairman of RiamTec and Riam Road Secondary School (RRSS), Dato’ Sri Lau Hieng Su told the new graduates that learning would involve a lot of critical thinking and problem-solving.

“Be the person to solve the problem and create a solution that could help society, and the job will come to you,” Lau advised.

Over the years, RiamTec has been providing relevant courses to students as a source of knowledge as well as to help students land jobs after graduation, Lau said.

“Being one of the top private institutes for tertiary education in the country, it provides courses of internatio­nal quality at local prices. It’s vital for the students to grab the opportunit­y to learn and be the best they can,” he said.

Among the guests at the ceremony were Miri Mayor Adam Yii, chairman of RiamTec and RRSS, Dato’ Sri Law Kiu Kiong and RiamTec executive chairman Dato’ Dr Fong Onn Min.

Fong, in his speech earlier, revealed that RiamTec would be having more courses relevant to the present job market, with one of new ones being Beauty Therapy.

“The beauty industry needs a lot of expertise but lacks manpower. The course will be available soon for interested students to pursue.”
