Batang Samarahan bridge project to experience slight delay — Muara Tuang rep

-

KOTA SAMARAHAN: There is a slight delay in the Batang Samarahan bridge project, says Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang.

However, he assures all that the bridge, upon reaching completion, would really benefit the people of Samarahan Division, especially those here and in Asajaya.

“I feel that it (bridge project) would not take too long to reach completion. I hope that we would all be patient,” he told reporters at his Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house held in his Muara Tuang service centre here on Friday night.

Asked on the reson behind the delay, Idris responded: “Honestly, I do not know what the cause is; there has yet to be any briefing on the construction. I am willing to meet the contractor or the relevant authorities with regard to the matter, but I do not want to speculate anything on the delay.”

Idris, however, hoped that the project would reach completion as the people of Samarahan had been waiting for the bridge for the past 20 to 30 years.

“Even then if there’s a slight delay for a year or two, we can still wait,” he said, also expressing his appreciation to past chief ministers – the present Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem – and the present Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg for their contribution in realising the bridge project.

It is learnt that upon completion, the new 774m Batang Samarahan bridge would link Kota Samarahan with Asajaya, replacing the present ferry service at Batang Samarahan/Sabang River.
