Hope Place now delivers aid once every three months due to drop in public donations

-

KUCHING: Hope Place, a local welfare non-governmental organisation (NGO), will change its assistance delivery system.

According to founder Kelvin Wan, the NGO is shifting its delivery frequency from once every two months to once every three months, due to the drop in public donations.

“With the current economy and the drop in the number of donations from members of the public, we have to cut our petrol cost; thus, the Hope Place committee has decided to change the delivery frequency,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hope Place recently received a request of the supply of adult diapers and Ensure milk formula for a disabled elderly man.

Razali Sani, 52, suffered a stroke five month ago, which had partly paralysed him and since then, he needs round-the-clock care and monitoring.

His wife Hamdiah Reseli needs to watch over him constantly and feed her husband the special milk power once every three hours.

“Razali consumes one tin (of Ensure milk formula) every three days, and he also needs the adult diapers which the family cannot afford,” said Kelvin.

It is learned that the couple has two children, both of whom are working – one as a part-time general worker at a kindergarten and the other at a supermarket. With small wages, they can barely afford to support their father.

Hope Place visits the poor and less-fortunate families, and contributes to them essential food items like rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, biscuits and noodles.

Many of these families or individuals barely earn enough to get through the month; hence many are grateful for the assistance delivered to them. For families caring for children with special needs, elderly or disable individuals, Hope Place provides milk powder, oats and diapers – both for babies and adults – as well.

Currently, Hope Place supports more than 170 families. For more information on how you can help, Hope Place can be reached via its hotline 013-567 2775 or 082683378 (Office) from 8.30am to noon, and 2pm to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays. On Saturdays, it is open from 9am to noon only.

Should anyone be interested to make any donation, do request for a receipt from the staff at Hope Place.

For direct bank deposits, the amount should be made payable to Maybank account Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching number 5112-8900-1160.
