DCM: Rural folk have knack to succeed in their endeavours

MIRI: People from the rural areas have the knack, aptitude and courage to succeed in all fields beyond the boundaries of their districts.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said this at the Raya Aidilfitri gathering of Persatuan Anak Jati Lawas at Kompleks Baitumal here yesterday

He said the Lawas diaspora who are working in the private and public sectors or studying outside Lawas District were likely to achieve success and distinctio­n in whatever they did.

“For those in business, give your best shot to stand out with your unique products and services,” he said.

Unique products such as Madu Kesurat, sambal Thai, kelupis, wajit and others could be commercial­ised and sold locally and even overseas.

He also urged them to support the community leaders and local political leaders, and live in harmony in the diverse ethnic setting, and focussing on socioecono­mic elevation.

“The new reality is here, the ICT age, digital revolution, global village, coined as C.O.M.E by Head of State when he was chief minister,” he said.

everyone to progress, mobility of people and equality for all races.

Awang Tengah, who is also Minister of Industrial and Entreprene­ur Developmen­t and Second Minister of Urban Developmen­t and Natural Resources, said this was evident in Miri which has progressed much and is home to many races due to job, economic and education opportunit­ies.

Later, he announced an allocation of RM40,000 for the associatio­n to run its activities and programmes.

The associatio­n chairman Cr Lias Mail also spoke at the gathering.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Developmen­t Rosey Yunus, Lambir assemblyma­n Ripin Lamat, and Miri Resident Serina Husaini were also present at the function.
