DAP to seek meeting with RoS on re-election issue
KUALA LUMPUR: DAP will seek a meeting with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) on its directive for the party to hold fresh reelection after it receives the letter officially.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said as of yesterday, the party had not received any letter from the RoS regarding the matter.
“We have yet to receive an official letter from RoS conveying their decision to us.
“The DAP will seek a meeting with the RoS as soon as we receive the letter from the RoS to obtain clarification in respect of the decision as set out in their press statement,” he said in a news conference after chairing an emergency meeting at its headquarters here, yesterday.
On Friday, RoS director general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdullah in a statement said that DAP will not be deregistered but it must hold a fresh re-election for its 20 central executive committee (CEC) following complaints by some party members claiming manipulation in the polls.
Lim who is also Penang Chief Minister said the party had already conducted a re-election of its CEC members in September 2013 and the result was submitted to RoS in November 2013, and as such he said the question of a fresh re-election did not arise.
“Nevertheless, we are prepared to meet further on the matter,” he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said RoS has been asked to act professionally in handling the new DAP CEC re-election in a legitimate and transparent manner, to enable delegates to elect 20 valid and recognised CEC members.
He said that whatever action taken by RoS would be based on the party’s constitution to safeguard its members.
“The RoS has met me and I have asked him (the director-general of RoS) to act professionally and not emotionally, and that whatever action taken by RoS must be based on the Societies Act 1966 and in accordance with DAP’s constitution.
“This is because RoS is an organisation which looks after the interest of members in any association including political parties, ” he said at a press conference after opening the Bagan Datuk Umno division delegates meeting, here, yesterday.
