Dr M told to apologise to Anwar
TEMERLOH: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad must apologise openly to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim if he agrees to appoint Anwar as Prime Minister.
Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Samsudin said Dr Mahathir had to do so as he was responsible for sacking Anwar and imprisoning his former deputy.
“I see this happens when the government proposes the establishment of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to investigate currency trading issues around the 1980s to the 1990s.
“Tun (Mahathir) should not only apologise, but even has to admit that Anwar is a victim of political conspiracy.
“We all know that he (Mahathir) desperately needs Anwar at this time to help him from being jailed because of this scandal (foreign currency trading),” he said.
Mohd Sharkar was speaking to reporters after attending an Aidilfitri Celebration organised by federal PAS at the al-Makmur Complex, Kerdau here yetserday.
He added Dr Mahathir was aware that Anwar knew a lot about the issue of currency trading and could cause action to be taken against him, including imprisonment.
Meanwhile, PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said PAS would not entertain DAP leaders questioning the presence of PAS representatives in the Selangor government because they were elected based on the people’s mandate in the last general election.
He said the party was fit to be in Pakatan Rakyat (PR) as opposed to other new parties which were just seen as riding on PR’s coattail. — Bernama
