KUCHING: Sarawak recorded two cases of non- compliance with the Ramadan Price Control Scheme 2017, which was run between June 17 and 30.

Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry ( KPDNKK) deputy director for Sarawak Abd Hafidz A Rahim said the two cases involved seizure of goods worth RM66 and compounds of RM200.

Adding on, he said both cases were detected here.

“KPDNKK Sarawak inspected 2,828 premises across the state throughout the two-week implementation ( of the price scheme),” he said in a statement yesterday.

The ministry listed 21 items under the Festive Season Price Control Scheme for this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri season – they were live chicken, standard chicken, super chicken, Grade A, B and C eggs, local beef, imported beef, imported buffalo meat, red chillies, tomatoes, imported round cabbage, whole coconut, grated coconut, shallots, imported onions, garlic, imported potatoes, Indian mackerel, sardine and albacore tuna.

The law under the Price Control and Anti- Profiteering Act 2011 requires traders to sell these controlled items at not more than the ceiling price fixed by the government, and they (traders) must attach pink price tags on these items to differentiate them from other non-price controlled items.

Any individual who is found guilty of non- compliance with the regulations could face a fine up to RM100,000 or a jail sentence up to three years, or both, or issued with a compound up to RM50,000; any organisation/company might be fined up to RM500,000 or issued with a compound up to RM250,000.

For the offence of not affixing the pink price tags on the controlled items, the individual offender can be fined RM10,000 or issued with a compound of RM5,000. For a company, the offence warrants it to be fined RM20,000, or issued with a compound of up to RM10,000.
