Health Department to hold workshops for water vending machine operators

-

KUCHING: The Health Department will be organising workshops at the district and divisional level for water vending machine operators on how to register their licence via online.

The workshops will be held on or before July 31 for operators to renew their licence as well as developing the safety and health manual for water vending machines.

“At this moment, there are a total of 508 water vending machines ( Mesin Jual Air, MJA) operating in Sarawak,” said Sarawak Health director Dr Jamilah Hashim in a statement yesterday.

She added that the workshop is in line with the updated procedures from the Food Safety and Quality Division under the Ministry of Health, whereby the renewing of licences should be made online at “http:// fosimdomestic. moh. gov. my” starting April 2017.

Since April 2017, all divisional health offices have been instructed to contact the water vending machine operators or their representatives to inform them on how to renew their licence via online.

During the process of acquiring the licence, water samples will also be taken from the operator’s vending machines to ensure that the water which it dispenses will be according to the standards of the Food Act 1983.

The operator or their representative who are found to be flouting the Food Regulation 1985 can be fined not more than RM5,000 or sentenced to not more than two years jail.

The statement called on the operators or their representatives to cooperate fully to ensure the licensing of their water vending machines can be issued without a hitch.
