Penguang tells constituents to value unity
MARUDI: The people here have been called upon to value unity and harmony among themselves which their ancestors had preserved as part of the traditions and culture of their community.
Assistant Minister of Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil, who is also Marudi assemblyman, made this call when speaking at the earth- breaking ceremony of a new site for Rumah Jilan Chaong, Sg Gerunggang, Ulu Sebatu in Tinjar recently.
Penguang said he was prompted to give this advice as he had noted that several longhouses in the constituency had been split.
At the same time, he called on the people to work together with the government of the day and not think of who their elected representative is.
“The government gives allocations stage by stage, so the people of every longhouse should be patient as the allocation is very limited,” he said.
He advised community leaders to identify those who are interested in taking up agriculture projects, such as livestock rearing and coconut farming, so that the government could provide them with training and assistance.
Adding on, he said the government would repair schools that had been identified to be in bad condition.
He also said three primary schools – SK Peking ( Tinjar), SK Pengarah Enterie ( Ulu Teru) and SK Sg Entulang ( Bakong) – in the constituency had been identified to use English as their language of communication in school.
On a related matter, he urged the people to give their undivided support to any candidate put up by Barisan Nasional in Baram parliamentary constituency in the coming general election.
The assistant minister reminded the people not to buy illegal lottery tickets which were now widely sold in longhouses.
He also told them about the menace drugs could cause to them and society. Thus he advised them to watch over their families to ensure that they do not get caught up with drugs as in Long Lapok Bazaar.
Later, he announced MRP grants
