KUCHING: McMillan Woods, a global association based in Malaysia’s capital city, Kuala Lumpur and headquartered in the United Kingdom, appointed Tan Sri Mohd Shukor Mahfa as the chairman for McM National Tax Firm – McM Tax Services with effect from July 1.

McMillan Woods believes that many of its global firms especially local firms within Malaysia, continue their never- ending drive to succeed in business regardless of the present soft economic conditions and more so to better understand the tougher tax regime that the Tax Authorities are now pursuing in view of the many tax audits and investigations that are long overdue.

This was the reason why Mohd Shukor was appointed, based on his extensive past as the immediate past chief executive officer ( CEO) and Director General for the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia.

Mohd Shukor has been known for his leadership, excellent stewardship capability and strong reputation during his tenure with the Inland Revenue Board, which has led him to the appointment as Chairman of the commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators ( CATA) – The Largest organisation of tax administrators in the world with 49 member countries.

“The appointment of Mohd Shukor is to primarily focus on the need to address the current tax regime of intensified tax audits and/or investigations and to assist both the tax authorities and the taxpayers to mutually arrive at an early conclusion which is beneficial to all parties,” it said in a statement.

“With the many years of experiences within the tax authorities, Mohd Shukor is certainly in a good position to address the issues faced by taxpayers who are subject to tax audits and/or under investigations by ensuring that the necessary documentation and information so required by the tax authorities are furnished quickly in order to bring the case to its early conclusion, which is mutually beneficial to both the taxpayers and the tax authorities.
