MIRI: The parent-teacher association (PTA) of SM Sains Miri hopes that the school would receive more allocations from the state government for upgrading works on its infrastructure.

According to PTA chairman Nazri Ahmad Lai, the hostels there which accommodates over 600 students, warrant special attention.

“We would also like to apply for SM Sains Miri to be included under one of the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects here for next year. There are several buildings here that require some repairs.

“The school is eyeing an expenditure of RM200,000 for this and also for supporting some of the programmes run by the school and the PTA,” he spoke the ‘Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2017’ get-together at the school’s Dewan Sri Pahlawan yesterday.

Adding on, Nazri pointed out that SM Sains Miri had accomplished many achievements including being among the top schools in Sarawak and the best here in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results. For this examination last year, it earned a School Average Grade (GPS) of 1.99.

SM Sains Miri had also come out tops in various sports competitions across the state.

“Our target this year is to run more programmes aimed at enhancing the skills and abilities of our students in any activity across various levels – district, state, national and even international,” he added.

The gathering also hosted Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, who later announced an allocation of RM15,000 for the school.

In his remarks, Ting He commended the principal Mohd Dzul Badzil Abdullah, the teachers and parents as well as the PTA for their support and encouragement in guiding the students to do well in their studies.

“Such commendable teamwork is important to ensure that the students would achieve excellent results, in academics and extracurricular activities.

“I will look into the proposed inclusion of SM Sains Miri into the RTP projects and discuss it with the school management. We want our children to excel not only in Miri or Sarawak, but also in Malaysia and the world,” the assemblyman added.

Members of SM Sains alumni also attended the Aidilfitri gathering.
