KOTA SAMARAHAN: Samarahan will have its own agricultural product collection centre, fully equipped with the infrastructures that will enable agriculture products from the area to be exported overseas.

The construction of the centre is made possible following Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg’s announcement that RM5 million has been allocated to build the collection centre.

“Tonight, I want to announce RM5 million (allocation) to build a collection centre in Samarahan, equipped with refrigerator and other infrastructure that will enable our agriculture produce to be collected and we will export the produce to other countries.

“Because Samarahan is near to the international airport, we can send the agriculture produce straight to overseas by using cargo planes,” Abang Johari said when officiating at Samarahan Division Hari Raya Aidilftri gathering at Samarahan Civic Centre here

Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, Chief Minister

yesterday.

He encouraged farmers to embrace technology to ensure that their produce could be marketed not only locally but anywhere in the world.

“If we plant pineapple, we can export it straight to overseas including to China. We use technology to ensure that the pineapple that we plant is not too ripe so that when we export, the pineapple will still be fresh like it has just been freshly picked from the farm.

“We will help the farmers in Samarahan because there are many products that we can farm. In Hong Kong, for example, three pieces of chillies cost US$ 2. We can even produce and sell chillies to Hong Kong and China. But we need a collection centre. I leave it to Assistant Minister of Entrepreneur and Small, Medium Enterprise (SME) Development to identify the area for us to build the collection centre.”

With the announcement of RM30 million to build a digital village in Samajaya, Abang Johari said the younger generation from Samarahan could take advantage of the opportunity to be trained in E-Commerce and on ways to market their products.

Besides that, he said those living in Samarahan also have the advantage as most of the universities are located there.

Abang Johari also announced an allocation of RM3.2 million to repair and replace the roof of Samarahan Mosque that had been around for about 20 years.
