KUCHING: Media practitioners in the state are told to write reports about elected representatives who are doing their jobs and also others who are not doing their jobs.

According to Assistant Minister of Corporate Affairs Abdullah Saidol, this would make sure that all elected representatives, including himself, were doing their job of serving the people well.

“We need the media to help us in improving our services for the people. There is no need to fear the media as they are the ones who can help us, such as explaining the government’s policies to the

people,” he said when officiating at a Gawai- Raya celebration organised by Radio Televisyen Malaysia ( RTM) Kuching at their badminton court in Jalan P Ramlee here yesterday.

Abdullah also said elected representatives and politicians should not be angry if the media report was not in their favour.

He said the official media were just doing their jobs and their reports might be the truth.

Still on the elected representatives, Abdullah said they must not act like a member of the royal family.

“You are elected by the people and it’s the people you must serve. You are there because the people elected you. Be thankful and appreciative of the people whom you serve.”

He also hoped that if any politician or anyone was not happy with his opinion, he or she should come forward and tell him so, and not behind his back.

RTM Sarawak broadcasting deputy director Jamel Seman, acting Sarawak area broadcasting director Faridah Sulong, former director general Datuk Norhayati Ismail, area station directors, and section heads were also present at the function.
