Public urged to support Malaysia Day blood donation campaign
MIRI: The Malaysian Red Crescent, Miri District Blood Donor Recruitment Committee ( BDRC) is organising a blood donation campaign tomorrow to commemorate Sarawak Day.
Organising chairman Karambir Singh said this is the first ever Sarawak Day blood donation organised by them. It is in response to a call by Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian to Sarawakians and friends of Sarawak to take advantage of the public holiday on July 22 to create their own meaningful Sarawak Day celebration.
Dr Sim had on Wednesday in Kuching appealed to Sarawakians to take pride in Sarawak Day, July 22 - a historical day for Sarawak, made more meaningful when former Chief Minister, the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem gazetted it as the state’s Independence Day last year.
Dr Sim, who is minister incharge of the celebration, said Sarawak is the only state in Malaysia with such a celebration. Thus the celebration should be people-centric.
The Malaysia Day blood donation campaign will be held at Level 1, Permaisuri Imperial City Mall between 9.30am and 1pm. Miri City mayor Adam Yii will be guest of honour at the event which is targeting 70 donors.
“Special certificates of appreciation have been designed for successful donors. Eligible members of the public are urged to come forward to support this meaningful life- saving event,” said Karambir yesterday.
He reiterated that the blood stock at Miri Hospital needs to be replenished constantly.
Karambir said the organising committee thanked Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Miri Indian Association, Miri Thai Poo Association, Rotary Club of Miri Oil Town and Ayam Brand for sponsoring the event.
