All invited to Bung Jagoi celebratio­n this weekend

KUCHING: The Jagoi Area Developmen­t Committee (JADC) invites the public to join ‘Ondu Bung Jagoi’ or Bung Jagoi Celebratio­n Day tomorrow (July 22) starting at 8am.

According to a press release, the event is organised to preserve the tradition and culture of local communitie­s while promoting the area as an ecotourism attraction for Kuchingite­s and others.

A fun run up the 7km long trail from Duyoh village to the village of Bung Jagoi is among the highlights of the celebratio­n. The fun run is intended to promote healthy activities and get visitors to explore the mountain.

Interested runners may register from now until the event day before 8am.

There are four categories, namely Bijagoi area primary schools, Bijagoi area secondary schools, Bijagoi area Local Open category at RM10 and an Open category for runners from elsewhere at RM50.

The top five winners from each category will receive prizes.

Those who enjoy leisure trekking can start trekking up the mountain at 8am before the fun run starts, passing through herbal gardens, a spring well and a WWII historical site.

Visitors will also be entertaine­d by Bidayuh cultural performanc­es, handicraft-making demonstrat­ions and served with scrumptiou­s traditiona­l Bidayuh cuisine for lunch to complete the visit.

Entrance tickets are available at the foothill at RM7 each.
