KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak ( Unimas) has been tasked to organise the Skilled Human Capital Development Conference ( SHCDC) 2017 by the Ministry of Human Resources in collaboration with major stakeholders; Sarawak Government, Human Resource Development Fund, Skills Development Fund Corporation, Leadership Institute and Serian Foundation.

This event, scheduled for Aug 21- 23, is one of the initiatives from the federal ministry to support the strategic development of Sarawak through well- planned skilled development of a competent workforce.

Participants in the conference will come from various industries, educational and vocational institutions, state and federal ministries, government linked corporations (GLCs) and non- governmental organisations from throughout Malaysia. SHCDC 2017 aims to attract interested parties, both public and private sectors, to enhance their knowledge, skills, abilities and other competencies on human resource development and linkages. This conference also offers holistic perspectives on current practices in developing employees as they are the most important assets in the organisations.

A special feature of the conference is the lab sessions that serve as a platform for relevant industries and agencies to meet and engage in discussion on the development of skilled manpower in Sarawak in relation to current and emerging skills. Lab resolutions will be presented to the chief minister to pave the way forward for skilled human capital development in Sarawak.

An exhibition will also be held during the threeday conference to provide an avenue for agencies to showcase their products and services, to promote the diverse local and national products in Malaysia and provide useful information related to Human Resource Development in Malaysia and Sarawak, specifically. The organisers would like to invite practitioners, consultants, training providers, industries, government, federal and state bodies and academicians to participate in the exhibition.

In short, SHCDC 2017 provides a timely and professional opportunity for parties involved in skilled human capital development to engage and explore the realities, diversities and challenges involved in managing the ‘soft aspects’ of an organisation.
