Jamit presents govt aid to fire victims
KAPIT: A simple ceremony to hand over government assistance to fire victims of Rumah Messop Tawi and two other fire victims whose houses were razed by fire in May this year was held at the State Complex here recently.
On hand to give them the aid was Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat.
Fire victims of Rumah Messop Tawi comprising 17 families received a total of RM119,450 for buying building materials, school uniforms and stationery, clothing and food and as pocket money.
The victims included Tuai Rumah Messop Tawi and his family.
The 17- door Rumah Messop Tawi at Ulu Sungai Entangai, a tributary of the Batang Rajang, was razed by an afternoon fire on May 6.
Meanwhile, the houses of two other fire victims, located along Sungai Pelajau at Jalan Bukit Goram, were razed by fire in the afternoon on May 22.
Bawang Bujang and her brother Siban received RM9,150 and RM7,650 respectively.
Present at the function were Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong Punan, Welfare Department Kapit assistant director Peter Gabong, Kapit District Council secretary Jabang Juntan and other government officials.
In his remark at the function, Jamit lauded the government agencies including Welfare Department, Fire and Rescue Department, Resident’s and District Offices, the police and several non- governmental organisations for responding fast to help the fire victims.
He pledged that he and Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi would assist the fire victims in the construction of their new longhouse.
On the assistance, Jamit said the amount received by each family might not be the same as it depended on their needs and number of their school- going children and so on.
