Free live jazz concert this Sunday to be broadcast on radio

KUCHING: REDfm English RTM Sarawak, together with RTM Sarawak’s music combo D’Aspirasi, and Sekolah Seni Malaysia Sarawak are coorganising a live jazz concert titled ‘ Blue Note Lounge — Live at Sekolah Seni’ at the Main Auditorium, Sekolah Seni Malaysia Sarawak at Jalan Sultan Tengah, on Sunday.

The concert which starts at 8pm will also be broadcast live on radio.

The 90-minute show will feature classic jazz and Latin songs as well as rearranged adaptations of Malay, Iban, Bidayuh, and Chinese songs.

D’Aspirasi will be joined by the Sekolah Seni Small Big Band on stage and the following guests artists: RTM music director Datuk Mokhzani Ismail as headliner, Carrie Geres, Stanly AF6, Jolynn J Chin, Dell Lawrence and Gena Sim.

Members of the public are cordially invited to attend. Entrance is free.

Prior to this concert, RTM Sarawak and Sekolah Seni Malaysia Sarawak had also organised a series of music workshops at the school for students and music enthusiasts.

Separate workshops for Rhythm Section, Strings, Horns and Vocals were conducted last Tuesday followed by an overall combined workshop the next day

A Master Class titled ‘Awakening The Creativity: Mastering The Art Of Improvisation’ will be delivered by Mokhzani from 2pm to 4pm on July 22 at the same venue.

The objective of the workshops and master class is to inspire and motivate music students and enthusiasts to further develop their talents and skills as well as elevate the standard of the music industry in Sarawak.
