Tekek Makmur PPR buyers receive special gift from govt

-

ROMPIN: Those intending to purchase homes at the Tekek Makmur People’s Housing Project ( PPR) in Pulau Tioman only need to pay RM35,000 for each unit as 92 per cent of the actual cost of RM403,000 is subsidised by the government.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the Tekek Makmur PPR project was the most expensive in the history of construction of PPR houses in the country but the government was still implementing it in an attempt to provide comfortable housing for the people on the island in line with the government’s social agenda.

He said this yesterday when launching Tekek Makmur PPR which involves the construction of 116 houses on 3.3 hectares of land on the island at a cost of RM46.7 million.

“Previously, we could not imagine a PPR project to reach Pulau Tioman and when we look at the cost to build each housing unit, it is the costliest in Malaysia’s PPR history.

“The government allocated RM46.7 million to build 116 units of houses here. However, the most interesting thing is that we offer the houses at only RM35,000 per unit,” he said.

Also present were Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Tan Sri Noh Omar, his deputy Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique and Tioman assemblyman Datuk Mohd Johari Hussain.

He added upon the completion of the project two years ago, 53 of the buyers had already occupied their respective units, while the rest were still in the process of getting loans.

Najib, who is also Pekan Member of Parliament, said that being fully aware of the difficulties faced by the 63 buyers to get their housing loans approved, the government was willing to offer the buyers to purchase the units through the rent-to- own concept.

“For the 63 other buyers who had yet to receive the house keys, we agree to approve the rent-to- own concept and they can pay RM124 per month for a one-year contract,” he said. — Bernama
