KUCHING: Sarawak Economic Development Corporation ( SEDC) treated 75 under privileged kids from five primary schools in Kuching to a Hari Raya Aidilfitri feast at Grand Margherita Hotel here on Thursday.

The schools involved were SK Lumba Kuda, SK Song Kheng Hai, SK Encik Buyong, SK Tupong and SK Merpati Jepang.

The Aidilfitri get- together which was carried out under SEDC’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, was aimed at reducing the burden of the less fortunate, sharing festive joy with them as well as motivating the school children to work harder in their studies.

SEDC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz Husain emphasised that the organisation has always been concerned about issues faced by vulnerable students.

“This is one such initiative where we reach out to those in need while hoping that it could close the gap in living standards in our diverse community especially around Kuching area,” he said during the celebration.

Strong unity and community ties, he pointed out, was crucial for the development of the organisation and community.

“This kind of cultural interaction is very meaningful for a harmonious and peaceful livelihood,” he said.

Abdul Aziz advised the children to not easily give up when faced with troubles and reminded them to ‘do what’s hard now and enjoy later’.

“Don’t feel that the hardship we are going through now is the reason we are not successful. Instead, treat them as challenges in life that we will overcome,” he added.

He also presented goodie bags worth RM100 each to all the children.

SEDC acting general manager Rakayah Hamdan, heads of schools, teachers and SEDC staff were among those present.
