Activities lined up for Kuching Fest 2017 until year’s end

KUCHING: People from all walks of life are invited to join this year’s City Day do to be held at Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya here on Aug 1.

They can look forward to a stage performanc­e by renowned local artist Dayang Nurfaizah during the celebratio­n from 9am.

Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to launch the City Day do. Among those expected to attend are Kuching North City Commission ( DBKU) Datuk Bandar Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai and Kuching South City Council ( MBKS) Mayor Datuk James Chan.

The celebratio­n that marks the 29th Kuching City Day is jointly undertaken by DBKU and MBKS, said a media statement issued by DBKU on Thursday.

According to the commission, lucky draw prizes such as an air- conditione­r, refrigerat­or, standing fan, ceiling fan, washer, television and mobile phones are up for grabs on Aug 1.

Additional­ly, DBKU has also lined up a series of activities until Dec 10 in conjunctio­n with this year’s Kuching Festival.

Next month, apart from the City Day do at the stadium, DBKU is also organising the Kuching City Street Parade in front of Hilton Kuching on Aug 12, ‘Mahabbah BandarayaK­U’ at Dewan Kampung Semariang Batu (Aug 18), ‘Active Community’ at the State Library (Aug 19-20), PreAsia Pacific Orchid Conference ( PRE-APOC) 2017 at the State Library (Aug 23-27) and ‘Poetic Expression on the City’ at Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) (Aug 31).

M eanwhile, six events have been planned for September. They are the ‘ Ride For Unity And Peace’ at Sarawak Sports Complex on Sept 16, Datuk Bandar Futsal Trophy competitio­n at Sport Planet (Sept 16-17), DBKU Criterium Race 1.0 at Sarawak Sports Complex ( Sept 17), a seminar in conjunctio­n with the Maal Hijrah celebratio­n at DBP (Sept 22), a workshop and idiom festival at Kubah Ria ( Sept 2324) and the Datuk Bandar Golf Trophy event at Sarawak Golf Club (Sept 30).

In November, the public can look forward to the Siol Mountain Bike Challenge 2017 Asia Mountain Bike Series ( SIMBC 2017-AMS) which will take place at Bukit Siol on Nov 4- 5 followed by ‘I Luv Kuching City 2017’ at Padang Merdeka (Nov 11-12) and Sarawak Gendang (Malay drum) Festival (Nov 17-18), for which the venue will be announced later.

To conclude the months-long celebratio­n, DBKU is organising the Kuching City Internatio­nal Dart Open 2017 event at the Waterfront Hotel on Dec 8-10.
