Student picked up for allegedly poisoning classmate
KUCHING: State police arrested a 13-year- old student for the alleged poisoning of his classmate by offering him fried noodles mixed with cockroach poison.
State CID chief SAC Datuk Dev Kumar said the Form 1 student from Sri Aman was picked up by police at his house at 2.30pm yesteray.
Dev said the incident happened at a school in Sri Aman on July 20 (Thursday) afternoon.
“Police picked up the 13-yearold for questioning, and seized a box of roach poison,” he said in a statement yesterday.
According to Dev, the victim was rushed to Sri Aman Hospital by the school authorities after he started vomiting a few minutes after eating the noodles allegedly offered by his classmate (suspect).
“Initial investigation revealed that the suspect had brought a container of fried noodles and a box of roach poison to school. He mixed some of the poison in powder form with the noodles.
“The suspect offered the noodles to the victim who ate it. A few minutes later, the victim started vomiting. Seeing that, the suspect panicked and passed the poison to another classmate who informed the teacher,” said Dev.
The victim’s father rushed to the hospital after being informed by a teacher.
“A teacher at the hospital informed the 49-year- old that his son had eaten food laced with poison offered by a classmate.
“After it was confirmed by a doctor that his son had ingested poison, the father lodged a police report which led to the arrest of the suspect,” Dev added.
The motive is being investigated, the case classified under Section 328 of the Penal Code for causing hurt by means of poison.
The case took another turn when the suspect’s grandfather lodged a police report at Sri Aman Police Station at 5pm yesterday, claiming the victim had bullied his grandson (the suspect), and extorted money and food from him on a daily basis.
“Police will also be investigating this report in connection with the poisoning case,” he said.
