Body of Indonesian woman found at private oil palm estate

MIRI: An Indonesian woman is believed to have been murdered after her body was found at a private oil palm estate at Sungai Selat, Pakut junction in Bekenu around 3.30pm on Saturday.

It is said that the husband of the 43-year- old woman had been looking for her since 10.30am.

State CID chief Datuk Dev Kumar said the couple, who were employed as labourers, went to the estate around 7.30am to collect fruit bunches and cut grass.

“Around 10.30am, the husband failed to locate the victim and began searching the estate for her, eventually discoverin­g her body about five hours later at a roadside near an oil palm tree,” Dev Kumar said in a statement yesterday.

He said personnel from the Bekenu police station were dispatched to the scene upon being notified of the incident and found injuries on the woman’s body.

When asked whether the victim had been raped and strangled, Dev Kumar stressed that the matter had yet to be ascertaine­d pending a post-mortem.

Police are still investigat­ing the case, which has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
