BCF a great platform to educate youngsters on Sarawak’s multi-ethnicity, says Nanta

SIBU: The Borneo Cultural Festival ( BCF) serves as the best platform to educate youngsters on the cultures of various ethnic groups in Sarawak.

According to Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, the richness of the cultures showcased during the festival is not only shown to the tourists, but also to the younger generation – giving them the exposure and also the opportunity to learn more.

“The BCF showcases the multiethnic society in Sarawak, and also Malaysia as a whole. This is unique, one that we are really proud of and strive to protect. Diversity is indeed our advantage and our asset.

“Some leaders from the mainland ( Peninsular Malaysia) do admit this; they want to emulate Sarawak, where people from various ethnic backgrounds can live happily together and appreciate each other’s culture genuinely,” he said in his opening remarks at the opening of Borneo Dayak Cultural Festival Pavilion on Saturday night.

Nanta, who is Kapit MP, viewed BCF as ‘a very good event’, in that it could strengthen the relations between members of the multiracial society not only in this division, but also Sarawak as a whole.

Dudong assemblyman and Sibu Municipal Council ( SMC) chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King, and SMC deputy chairwoman Rogayah Jamain were among those present at the event.
