-

SIBU: A new surau costing RM750,000 will be built at the Kemunyang housing estate near here to cater to the needs of the rising Muslim population there.

Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health Dr Annuar Rapaee announced this during a Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2017 gathering at Surau Darul Ukhuwah Kemunyang recently.

“We will build another surau for the Muslim residents here (in Kemunyang),” said the Nangka assemblyman, who is also Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research, adding that the allocation from the state government would be distributed under the Rural Transformation Programme ( RTP).

Dr Annuar also expressed his hope for the project to be implemented smoothly and reach completion by May next year.

“Should the works commence this October, we hope the surau would be ready for the ‘ tarawih’ (night prayers during the fasting month) and Hari Raya Aidilfitri prayers next year,” he said.

On a related matter, Dr Annuar advised the committee of Surau Darul Ukhuwah Kemunyang to seek donations, from which the proceeds could be used to install key appliances such as airconditioning units, audio-speaker system and fans, as well as to buy items like ‘sejadah’ ( prayer mats) and copies of the Quran.

Meanwhile, Surau Darul Ukhuwah Kemunyang committee chairman Abdul Rahman Mohd Yusuf said the new surau would be sited just next to the present facility.

According to him, the new surau would be the third in Kemunyang area.

“We wish to express our gratitude to the state government, especially to Dr Annuar for his contribution in realising this surau project,” he said.
